E. (Mac) McNatt were at 11:00 Am Saturday at Ricks-Bower Funeral Home Chapel in Teague. Burial followed the service at 4:00 PM at Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville. Mac was born on January 12, 1914, in Hunt County. He passed away on April 27, 2004 (the birthday of the love of his life for over seventy years, his late wife, Janie) at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. Rev. Charles Jordan, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Teague, officiated. Mac, known as "Pap" to many, was a lifelong farmer. In 1859, he was honored as the State of Oklahoma Farm Family of the Year, which was sponsored by Skelly Oil Company. In 1970, he was named Outstanding Field Crops Supervisor of the Year by the State of Texas Department of Corrections. He retired from the State of Texas Department of Corrections in 1976 and moved to Teague in 1975 and started a garden. Anyone who knew Mac and Janie knew what a big, beautiful garden he always had. He loved to give the vegetables away to anyone who passed by. He not only had a beautiful garden, but he grew beautiful roses as well. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Men's Coffee Drinking Sunday school class and a member of the Methodist Men's Club. He was a volunteer at the Teague General Hospital where he carried candy canes in his shirt picket and early the name as the "Candy Man." Mac enjoyed people, especially his fiends at the Senior Citizens Center. Casket bearers were Doug DeBerry, Marvin Skinner, Steve Collins, David Green, Jeff Adams, Tracy Smith, Terry Madl, and Thomas Hinkle. Honorary bearers were Paul Fulton, Claude Philpott, Charlie Levels, and Johnny Jensen. He was survived by his daughters, Joyce Collins and husband Ged Collins and Janiece Hinkle and husband Bill Hinkle of Waco; brother, Bill McNatt and wife Pat McNatt of Houston; grandchildren, Beth Adams of Humble, Steve Collins of Saint Louis, Missouri, Brenda green of Roanoke, Doug De Berry of East Bernard, Marvin Skinner of Bay City, Susan Hinkle of Houston, Thomas Hinkle of Kenedy, Debra Martinez of New Braunfels, and Pam Smith of Katy; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret McNatt of Richmond; numerous nieces and nephews, including his Celeste relatives, Sherry Duncan Thacker and family, and his close friend, Johnny Jensen. He was preceded in death by his wife Janie McNatt on February 21, 2003, his parents, and two brothers.
