Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [This is Peter Renfro McSwane 26 Mar 1837 to 25 Jan 1885.] DIED - Our well known countyman, Capt. P. R. McSwane, of String Prairie, in the southern part of the county, died last Sunday morning, after a painfull illness of several months. Captain McSwane was one of Freestone's best citizens. He was for several years County Commissioner from his precinct, and was noted as being one of the most sensible and business like members of the Court. He was a quiet, orderly and peacable man and in his every day walks exhibited many of those qualities that go to make a good valuable citizen. The cause of his death was consumption, contracted, it is thought, from his wife, who died several months ago of the same disease. Capt. McSwane was a member of the Grand Jury at the last term of our District Court, and was observed to be in rather feeble health, then; but none of his many friends thought, from his appearance, that death was so near him. He was not old, but just on the prime of mature manhood.
