He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Mead of Teague; his step-mother, Elsie Mead of Jefferson City, Missouri; two step-sisters, Martha Nolt of Jefferson City, Misouri and Sarah Schmick of Grely, Colorado; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was born August 20, 1949, at St. Joseph, Missouri, one of two children of Nathaniel Noble and Vera Norris Mead. He grew up in St. Joseph-Troy, Kansas communities where he attended schools, prior to graduating from Troy High School with the class of 1968. Jerry worked in the printing press business all of his life, including 28 years with the Teague Chronicle, retiring in 1999. Mr. Mead was a member of the Undenominational Church in Fairfield, Texas. He was an avid artist, having won numerous awards for his paintings. He married Cheryl McNett, March 29, 1969 at Troy. They moved in the early 1970’s o the Cotton Gin area near Teague, Texas. She survives. Other survivors include a sister Judith Capp of Rigby, Idaho; His step-mother Elsie Mead of Jefferson City, Missouri; Two step-sisters Martha Nolt, also of Jefferson City, Sarah Schmick of Greeley, Colorado; And a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Severance.
