Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chroncile April 26, 2007 BILLIE D. MEARS Graveside services for Mr. Billie D. Mears, 73, were held on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Salem Cemetery near Freestone. Rev. Jeff Powers officiated. Mr. Mears passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas. Billie Mears was born in Franklin, Texas, to Joseph and Goneva Mae Mears, on February 12, 1934. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Mr. Mears was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Betty Mears of Teague, his children Martha Lynn Brown of Houston, Donna Mae Carey of Houston, Linda Dianne Mears of Galveston, Garie Joseph Mears of Austin, John Patrick Mears of Austin, Christal Elaine Mears of Galveston and Billie Margaret Smith and husband Cedric of Teague, his step-son Owen Beene and wife Vickie of Teague, 16 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren his brother Garland Mears of Gunnison, Colorado, his sisters Nanette Cunningham of Buffalo and Bobbie Smiley. Mr. Mears was preceded in death by his first wife Zera Lee Mears, his parents, his sisters Junaita Kriebel, Ruth Ann Vann and Doris E. Sanders, his brothers Joseph Mears, Jr., Louis R. Mears and John C. Mears. Bowers Funeral Home of Teague was in charge of the arrangements.
