Jerry was born in Fairfield on December 9, 1940 and was the only child of Owens and Ruby Myers Metzgar. He graduated from Fairfield High School and then moved to Waco in 1963 to attend Durham’s Business School and work as a CPA with Metzgar, Traplena & Sullivan, L.L.P. On October 25, 1963, Jerry married the love of his life, Mae Dell, and they went on to have two sons, Jarrod and Jason. Jerry loved anything to do with the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. He was also an avid Texas Rangers baseball fan, as his friends and family can attest. After his retirement in 2001, Jerry and Mae Dell moved back to Fairfield to make their home. They both became active members at Calvary Baptist Church and spent their retirement years with their children, grandchildren, and many friends. A celebration last fall honored Jerry and Mae Dell’s 50th wedding anniversary and brought together many of the loved ones who have been blessed to know Jerry. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. His legacy will live on through his beloved wife, Mae Dell; sons Jarrod and wife, Heather of Lorena; and Jason and wife, Deanna of China Spring; grandchildren Richard, Raylee, Braedon, and Bryson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
