Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder February 09, 2008 J.W. Mitchell, Jr. Funeral services were held yesterday for J.W. Mitchell, Jr., 85, of Garland who died on Friday, Feb. 1. Mr. Mitchell was born in Cedar Hill on Aug. 8, 1922 to parents Jesse William and Minnie Scott Mitchell. He served in the United States Army Air Force in the 389th bomber group, flying a B-24 Liberator in 31 missions over Germany. Mr. Mitchell continued to serve in the reserves and was called to duty again during the Korean War, where he served in Japan for two years. He graduated from Sunset high school in Dallas and after returning from military duty he earned his bachelors degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Mr. Mitchell worked as a certified public accountant for 40 years and taught Bible credit courses. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Centerville Road Church in Garland. Burial was at George Cemetery in Clay Hill. Mr. Mitchell is survived by daughters Donna Roberts and husband Jackie of Waxahachie, Judy Mitchell of Clay Hill and Bobby Guinn and husband Doug of Garland; son Jerry Mitchell and wife Debbie of DeSoto; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Jesse and Minnie Mitchell and wife L. Rae George Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of almost sixty-one years, L. Rae George Mitchell. He is survived by their four children, Donna Roberts & husband Jackie of Waxahachie, Judy Mitchell of Clay Hill, Jerry Mitchell & wife Debbie of DeSoto, and Bobbi Guinn & husband Doug of Garland; nine grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; other relatives & friends. He was an only child yet was thrilled to have married into the George Family and was known to say that he “married him a family with eleven brothers and sisters”, loving them all as his own.
