Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Bowers Funeral Home website Edith Craig Morton (July 30, 1917 - October 23, 2007) Edith Craig Morton Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Pearl Morton were held Friday, October 26, 2007 at 2:00pm. at the Freestone Baptist Church. Interment followed the service at Salem Cemetery. Bro. John Lindsey and Bro. Gaylon Henry officiated. Mrs. Morton was born on July 30, 1917 to Nora Bell Rife and Arthur Lee Craig and passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Mexia Nursing Home. She was ninety years old. Mrs. Morton was a native of Freestone County and lived in the Freestone community most of her life. She was an active member of Freestone Baptist Church and loved her church and her church family dearly, as she loved her family and friends. She was known as “Aunt Edith” and for her homemade chocolate pies by most people who knew and loved her. Mrs. Morton is preceded in death by her husband Francis Morton, her son; Gerald Morton; son-in-law; George Donnelly; brothers, Alvis Craig, Coy Craig, Leo Craig and Rayford Craig; sisters, Ethel Martin, Myrtle Smith and Hazel Oakes. She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Atchley and husband Mick of Teague and June Donnelly of Freestone. Grandchildren, Michael Atchley & wife Julie of Dew, Michelle Cormack & husband Dave of Manhattan Beach, California, Stephanie Owens & husband Jackie of Woodburn, Oregon, Kimberly Morgan & husband Robert of Teague, Shannon & Heath Donnelly of Freestone. Great grandchildren, Danelle Owens, Carly Atchley, Mick & Lane Morgan, Andrew, Catherine, Peter & Michael Cormack. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
