Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [David Strickland has the original] The Fairfield Recorder Thursday, January 13, 1977 - Page 3 John Young Nash Funeral services for John Young Nash, 78, of Teague were held on Friday afternoon, January 7, 1977 at 2 p.m. in the Dew Methodist church. Officiating was Bro. Frank Lee, pastor of the Flo Community Church, assisted by Bro. Royce Sanders, pastor of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church of Teague. Mr. Nash passed away on January 5 at Teague Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Nash, a native of Freestone County, was born on November 20, 1898 in the Little Star community. He was the son of Fannin Young Nash and Etta Willibanks Nash. On February 7, 1923, he was united in marriage with Willie White of Dew. The Rev. W. T. Ayers of Teague performed the wedding ceremony. For years, Mr. Nash was a farmer and rancher in the Dew and Lanely communities and later owned and operated the Nash Grocery and Market in Dew, continuing his ranching operations. Upon retirement the Nashes moved to Teague. He was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church in Dew. Survivors besides his wife, Mrs. Willie Nash of Teague, include two sisters, Mrs. Vera Clark of Lockhart and Mrs. John (Exa) Drummond of Dallas, one brother, Wallace Nash of Beaumont, a number of nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Pallbearers were Lewis Wright, Henry White, Wayne Massey, Ward Lambert, Carl Smith and Noble Lane. Interment was in the Dew cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home of Teague in charge of arrangements.
