Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - April 21, 2011 edition WATT PARKER NEWMAN Graveside services were held last Wednesday at Fairfield Cemetery Watt Parker Newman, 90, of Fairfield who died April 11 in Gonzales. Mr. Newman was born July 20, 1920 to Theodore Burton and Mattie Gertrude Matthews Newman of Fairfield. During his high school days in Fairfield, Mr. Newman was an accomplished athlete, competing in pole vault, football and baseball. He served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre of Operations and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. On April 12, 1947 , he married Ennie Dell Looney of Fairfield where they made there home and operated Newman’s Variety and Hardware Store, which later became Newman's Hardware, on the square in Fairfield. Mr. Newman was a past member of the Fairfield Rotary Club and Fairfield Lions Club. He also served on the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of Fairfield chamber of commerce and operated Newman's RV Park in Fairfield. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his parents; wife, brothers Joe Everett Newman, Bill Newman and Burton Newman. He is survived by his children Amy Newman of Fairfield and Beth Newman of Harwood and nieces Charlotte Gaca and husband Lee of Corsicana and Jan Van Winkle of Corsicana.
