Freestone County, Texas Obits The Hillsboro Reporter John E. Nichols Aug 17, 1915 - Jul 27, 2003 JOHN NICHOLS Mr. John E. Nichols, 87, of Purdon died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at a Waco hospital. He was born August 17, 1915 in Streetman, son of the late John Edward and Louann Atchinson Nichols, and attended schools in Streetman and Alligator. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a farmer all of his life. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Casey Joe Nichols; two brothers, Joe E. Nichols and H.B. Nichols; and two sisters, Clara Mae Horn and Sara Ellen Nichols. Survivors include: two sons, John Elic Nichols, Jr. and wife, Brenda, and Jack Ladon Nichols and wife, Darlene, all of Bellmead; two daughters, Janice Saralee Fouts and husband, Jerry Joe, of Bellmead and Ruth Ann Vickers and husband, Caswell, of Houston; former wife, Odessa Campbell of Bellmead; one sister, Sara Elizabeth Stowers of Lake Jackson ; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Military graveside services were conducted by the West Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819 at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy with Rev. Ronnie Holmes officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
