Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - 30 April 1970 edition, Page 1 Funeral Services Held in Teague For Llewellyn Notley Llewellyn Notley, 81, former longtime superintendent of Teague schools and the leader of the Freestone County Historical Survey Committee, died in City Hospital at Teague early Monday. Funeral services were held at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Teague Tuesday afternoon, with the eulogy by Prof. P. D. Browne of Baylor University. Assisting were Rev. T. I. Sandlin, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Cliff Lamb, pastor of First Methodist Church. Internment was in Greenwood Cemetery with the Lawrence Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Notley was born in Paris, Texas, on Oc 9, 1888, and has been a resident of Teague for many years. He was school superindent for 33 years. He was chairman of the Freestone County Historical Survey Committee for eight years and, in 1967, was presented with the John Ben Sheppard Award as the most outstanding historical committee chairman of the year in the state. He was a life member of Texas Association of School Administrators, a member of a board of directors of the Freestone County Museum Association, and vice president of the BRI Railroad Museum Association. He was a member of the Teague Rotary Club, the chamber of commerce and the Masonic Lodge. For three years he served as chamber of commerce manager. He was a member of the board of directors of the Confederate Research Center at Hill Junior College in Hillsboro. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred J. Morse, Jr. of Austin, and Mrs. Donald D. Phillips of Los Alamos, N. Mex., and four grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife in 1950.
