Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Ed[win Sneed] Orand Ed Orand, 88, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Fairfield. Memorial services were held 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2013 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Pastor Eston (Buddy) Turner officiating. Interment will be at Lake Chapel Cemetery. Ed was born October 26, 1924 in Freestone County; to parents Oddie and Leone Childs Orand. Ed served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy on board the cruiser, USS New Orleans. The USS New Orleans was the recipient of 17 Battle Stars and lost 128 crew members during the war. He was a charter member and lifetime member of Wilbur H. Bailey Post 5872 VFW and served in various offices within the Post. Prior to retirement he was the night manager of the former Don Emmons Truck Stop in Fairfield. His love of fishing was well known. In addition to his parents Ed was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Lynn (Shug) Orand and a granddaughter, Christina Rankin. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Sandra Rankin of Fairfield; one sister, Catherine Ethridge of Fairfield; three nephews, Tommy Ethridge of Dew; Charles Ethridge of Fairfield; David Ethridge of Michigan; numerous great-nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Carmine Orand of Fairfield.
