Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder - 9 Aug 1907 issue Yerby Locals AUG. 5 - Our community was greatly shocked, Thursday evening over the news that Bill Owens, of Young, had committed suicide. Mr. Owens was a good citizen and held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Solon Owens passed through here Friday night, enroute to Young, to attend the funeral of this father at that place. UNCLE JOHN SUICIDE AT YOUNG W. G. Owens, of Young, Kills Himself With a Pistol Word was received here Friday morning that W. G. Owens, a well known citizen, of Young, had killed himself on Thursday evening. No cause was assigned except that he had been in very bad health, and it is thought that this was the reason. It seems that Mr. Owens left his wife and another lady in the yard, and going into the house, secured his pistol, lay down on a bed, and shot himself through the hear, dying five hours later. Mr. Owens was an old citizen of this county, and his many friends deeply deplore the horrible tragedy. His remains were interred in the Young cemetery Saturday morning, the Masonic Lodge officiating.
