Dorothy was born November 10, 1926, to John George Owens and Eula May Owens in rural Limestone County. She was the oldest of thirteen children in the family, and grew up taking care of her siblings, and helping the family with gardening, milking, picking cotton and any other work needed. She learned to be a hard worker, and worked all of her life taking care of her family or others. Dorothy was united in marriage with Willie Bruce Ticknor on January 31, 1950 at Fort Worth, and they traveled and worked many places, including years in Arizonia and California, before coming back to Texas. Dorothy and Bruce adopted their daughter, Elizabeth, in 1961, as soon as she was born. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her all of her life. She lived the last twenty-four years in Groesbeck. She worked in the Fairfield schools as a custodian about ten years, and she also assisted Mr. Gene Lewis in Fairfield in raising parakeets and other exotic birds, and making plastic fishing worms. She also cleaned houses for the public, until she retired. Dorothy never met a stranger and loved to talk. She depended on the Lord for his strength and guidance throughout her life. She always was and will remain ever a special and loving mother and Elizabeth’s best friend. She will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of all her family and the friends that she has touched. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989, and six of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Owens and son-in-law, Dennis Thomson of Groesbeck; grandsons Patrick Pounders of Dallas, Josh Pounders of Marlin, and David Thomson and wife Rachel of College Station; granddaughter, Angel Harrington and husband Gregory of Kansas; great granddaughter, Nicole Harrington of Kansas; three brothers, Buck Owen and wife Marvis of Groesbeck, Bill Owen and wife Mary Beth of Groesbeck, and Opie Owen of Gause; and three sisters, Martha Reddick of Gause, Johndale Owen of Gause, and Helen Wilson of Rockdale.
