Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [Willie Dexter Owens] Fairfield Recorder December 16, 2010 WILLIE DEXTER OWENS Funeral services were held last Wednesday at the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church for Willie Dexter Owens, 96, of Fairfield who died Dec. 4 at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. Interment with Military Funeral Honors by the U.S. Navy was held at Hopewell Cemetery in Fairfield. Owens was born Sept. 1, 1914 to Steven Owens and Maxine Freeman in the Butler Community of Oakwood. He attended Freestone county schools and was a farmer/rancher in Fairfield. Owens married Ruth Tillman on Valentine’s Day of 1949 in Fairfield. A soldier in the U.S. Navy, he was honorably discharged on Nov. 27, 1945 at Camp Wallace. He was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church, Fairfield Male Chorus, and the brotherhood organization as well as a trustee. Owens enjoyed playing dominos, gardening, and humorous story-telling. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Alazdie Owens and one brother. Owens is survived by children Alice Owens of Fairfield, Willie David Owens and wife Imogene of Teague, Catherine Owens of Ft. Worth, Johnny Johnson of Houston, Dorothy Owens Brown and husband Dexter of Fairfield, Annie Mae Owens of Fairfield, and Debbie Owens Jones and husband Vince of Streetman; Sister-in-law Mary E. Burns of Ft. Worth; 43 grandchildren; 109 greatgrandchildren; 47 greatgreat grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Officiating services was pastor A.L. Thibodeaux. Making arrangements was Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home in Teague.
