Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper April 9, 2009 Jewell Lee (Pruitt) Padgett Graveside services were held Monday for Jewell Lee Padgett, 80, of Teague who died Friday, April 3, at the Teague Nursing Home. Mrs. Padgett was born in Freestone county near Lanely. She married George B. Padgett on Jan. 19, 1946. The couple lived in Houston for over 45 years and moved to Cotton Gin following Padgett's retirement. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother. Mrs. Padgett enjoyed farming with her husband and the couple was well know for their purple hull peas. She also loved to fish and play bridge. Mrs. Padgett was a member of East Haven Baptist Church in Houston. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 6, at Cotton Gin Cemetery with Rev. Jason Whitt officiating. Mrs. Padgett is survived by her son, George Andrew Padgett and wife Lynette of Midlothian; three granddaughters, Cassie Padgett, Laurel Padgett, and Sherry Padgett, all of Fairfield; two sisters, Ouida Ward of Mexia and Sandra Brooks and husband Bill of Teague; and four brothers, J.A. Pruitt and wife Jean of Pasadena, Harold Pruitt and wife Ann of Houston, Jerry Pruitt and wife Betty Jo of Teague, and Tony Pruitt of Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George B. Padgett; two brothers, Sterling Pruitt and Preston Pruitt; sister, Yvonne Pruitt; and parents, Archie and Lois Black Pruitt. Arrangements were provided by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
