Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle - November 6, 2014 issue JANET McDONALD PATTERSON Janet McDonald Patterson, 70, departed her earthly life October 28, 2014 in Palestine, Texas. A graveside service was held at the Post Oak Cemetery in Fairfield on Friday, Oct. 31st at 10:00 a.m. Officiating at the service was Bobby “Bubba” Rutherford. The opening prayer was given by Janet Bulger and special music, “The Lords Prayer,” was provided by Don Thornton. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Parker, Joe Tom Hancock and the FHS class of 1962. Janet Elizabeth “Jan” McDonald Patterson was born August 9, 1944 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California to Frank Huckaby McDonald and Addie Elaine (Goff) McDonald. After her father’s WWII military service the family located in Texas City and Dickenson, Texas, for a few years, then moved to Fairfield, her father’s hometown. Jan entered the 6th grade in Fairfield and was a 1962 graduate of Fairfield High School. She was also a graduate of Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. On Jan. 6, 1973 Jan married her best friend, Roy Lynn Patterson. Their son, Roy Lynn Patterson Jr., was born Sept. 4, 1974. Jan worked twenty five years for Texas Telephone and Telegraph Co., which changed hands through the years, here in Fairfield. Jan became active with the Red Cross in 2003 with many memorable experiences until the first months of 2014. Other volunteer service work, for several years, was with Global Heart Inc. in Fairfield. She was a member of the Jonathan Hardin Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Jan shared the delight of her granddaughter, Natalie, on many family trips to Disney World in Florida. Jan was preceded in death by her father in 1958, her mother in 1998 and a half- sister, Sonya Machemehl of Alabama, in 2009. She is survived by her husband Roy Lynn Patterson Sr.; son Roy Lynn, wife Jana and granddaughter Natalie Lynn Patterson of Palestine; sister, Joan “Sissy” McDonald of Fairfield; brother in law, Charles A. Machemehl of Alabama and a host of friends and relatives.
