Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Dorothy McLeod Pecot (July 5, 1924 - March 18, 2007) Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Pecot were held Tuesday March 20, 2007 at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel at Bowers Funeral Home. Interment followed the service at the Salem Cemetery. Bro. Jack McDaniel officiated. Mrs. Pecot passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007 in Fairfield. Mrs. Pecot was born in Freestone County and graduated from the Freestone School at the age of sixteen. She worked in Houston during World War II in the shipyards as a “Rosie the Riveter”. After the War, she and her husband owned and operated a drug store in Mathis, Tx for many years. She returned to Teague in the early 1970’s and went to work for her brother’s business, Motor Sales in Fairfield where she remained as secretary for almost fifteen years. More recently, she loved to visit the Senior Citizens Center in Teague at lunchtime and especially enjoyed playing dominoes. Mrs. Pecot was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church near Freestone. She is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Voisin & husband Clarence of Buffalo, Happy Savage of Teague, brother, John Dean McLeod & wife Hilda of Fairfield, sister-in-law, Evelyn Garner of Tyler & nieces & nephews; Billy Jim Brotherton of Teague, Sheri Reed of Fairfield, Jill Robinson of Buffalo, Carla Freeman of Buffalo, John David McCleod of Fairfield, Jerry Don McLeod of Fairfield, Jay Vickers of Longview, Joe Savage of Taylor, Mandi Ivy of Tyler & Matthew Maisen. Numerous other great-nieces & nephews. Mrs. Pecot was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Pecot; her parents, Bill & Lena McLeod; and one brother, J.P. Mrs. Pecot was born in Freestone county and graduated from the Freestone School at the age of 16. She worked in Houston during World War II in the shipyards as a "Rosie the Riveter." Services were conducted at 2 p.m. a Bowers Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jack McDaniel officiating. Burial was at Salem Cemetery. Mrs. Pecot is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Voisin and husband Clarence of Buffalo, and Happy Savage of Teague; a brother, John Dean McLeod and wife Hilda of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Garner of Tyler; Nieces and nephews Billy Jim Brotherton of Teague, Sheri Reed of Fairfield, Jill Robinson of Buffalo, Carla Freeman of Buffalo, John David McLeod of Fairfield, Jerry Don McLeod of Fairfield, Jay Vickers of Longview, Joe Savage of Taylor, Mandi Ivy of Tyler and Matthew Maisen; numerous other great-nieces and -nephews; and next-door grandson Chance Black. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Pecot; her parents, Bill and Lena McLeod; and a brother, J.P. McLeod. Arrangements were made by Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
