Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mattie Alva (Lewis) Phillips March 30, 1912 - January 29, 2014 Mattie Alva Phillips, 101, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will follow at the home of Chuck and Shelly Lyles at 221 Laurel Lane, Fairfield, TX 75840. Mrs. Phillips was born March 30, 1912 in Echola, Alabama; to parents Rufus Z. and Susie Reece Lewis. For over fifteen years she worked at the Dinner Bell Cafeteria in Houston. She had been a Fairfield resident since the early 1970’s having moved here from Houston. In Fairfield she was a member of First Baptist Church and very active in Chapter 331 O.E.S. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, H. A. Phillips; two sons, James Lyles and Gene Lyles and his wife Twila; a daughter, Ruby White and her husband Bud; eleven brothers and sisters; four grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory is four grandsons, Ronnie Lyles and wife Andrea of Grand Prairie, TX; Chuck Lyles and wife Shelly of Fairfield; Jimmy and Rusty White of Houston; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
