Helen Louise (Sawyers) Pickens

Graveside services were held Dec. 3 at Lake Chapel Cemetery for Helen Louise
Sawyers Pickens, 76, who died Nov. 30.  Ed Ridge officiated at the service.

Mrs. Pickens was born Sept. 23, 1931 in Freestone county.

She was preceded in death by her parents Noel and Lula Harp Sawyers, husband 
Vanes Virgil “Red” Pickens, and brothers Alton L. Sawyers and Lester D. Sawyers.

Survivors are son Donald Carruthers and wife Terri of Sweetwater, Texas, 
grandchildren Justin Carruthers and wife Kelly of Mt. Vernon, Jeffery Carruthers
and wife Maria of Teague, Stacy Pierson and husband Shawn of Killeen and Kurt 
Carruthers of Sweetwater; Sisters Oma Lee Lewis of Corsicana, and Mammie Roberts
and husband Kenneth of Teague, sister-in-law Jeraldine Sawyers, 10 great-
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Mike Roberts, Ronnie Lee, Kenneth Lewis, Don Sawyers and Jackie
Pickens. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Lee and Ronny Lewis.

Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.

HELEN LOUISE SAWYERS PICKENS


Mrs. Helen Louise Sawyers Pickens, of Fairfield, Texas, passed away on Friday, 
November 30, 2007. She was 76 years old.

Mrs. Pickens was born on September 23, 2007, in Freestone County, Texas, to Noel and 
Lula Harp Sawyers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pickens were held on Monday, December 3, 2007, at Lake 
Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield, Texas. Bro. Ed Ridge conducted the services.

Mrs. Pickens is survived by her son Donald Carruthers and wife Terri of Sweetwater; her 
grandchildren Justin Carruthers and wife Kelly of Mt. Vernon, Jeffery Carruthers and 
wife Maria of Teague, Stacy Pierson and husband Shawn of Killeen, Kurt Carruthers of 
Sweetwater; her sisters Oma Lee Lewis of Corsicana and Mammie Roberts and husband 
Kenneth of Teague; her sister-in-law Jeraldine Sawyers; 10 great grandchildren, 
numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vanes Virgil “Red” Pickens, her 
brothers Alton L. Sawyers and Lester D. Sawyers.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Pickens were Mike Roberts, Ronnie Lee, Kenneth Lewis, Don 
Sawyers and Jackie Pickens. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Lee and Ronny Lewis.

Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield was in charge of the arrangements.
