Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - January 13, 2011 WILLIAM EDWARD PITTMAN Graveside services were held last Saturday at Fairfield Cemetery for Mr. William Edward Pittman, 86, of Fairfield who died Jan. 5 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens. Mr. Pittman was born Nov. 2, 1924 to Robert Lee Pittman and Fannie Sue Manahan Pittman and he grew up “in the middle of a cotton patch” in the Grange Hall Community, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and under the leadership of Superintendent P. D. Browne in the Fairfield Public School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Navy Medical Corpsman and graduated from The University of Texas in 1951. Mr. Pittman was an active petroleum landman for forty-seven years, having been an employee of Pure Oil Company, Hunt Oil Company, Gold King Production Company, and then an independent landman for seventeen years. He was a member and past member of Landmen’s Association in Houston, Dallas, Tyler, New Orleans, LA and Lafayette, LA and the American Association of Professional Landsmen. Mr. Pittman was past president of Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen, 1975 recipient of Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. He loved God, his country, family, friends, good books, music, flowers, dogs and most creatures, hos home, the land, and life. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Mary Frances McMaster and Sara Elizabeth Thompson Skipper. Mr. Pittman is survived by daughter Marianne Pittman Elder and husband Robert; sons Christ, Mark, and Don Skipper; grandchildren India, Austin, Collin, and Linton Travis Skipper; cousin Clovis Price and wife Melissa; and a number of other family members and friends. Pallbearers were Robert Elder, Clovis Price, Daniel Chamblee, Roland Sledge, David McMaster, and Mark Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Pittman and Ruth Davis. Officiating services was the Reverend Brooks Taylor of the First United Methodist Church of Murchison. Making arrangements was Griffin-Roughton funeral home of Fairfield.
