Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Hazel Almeda (Scalf) Poe Hazel Almeda Poe, 81, of Wortham, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 in Fairfield. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tom Connolly, pastor of Dresden United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin. Mrs. Poe was born February 16, 1933 in Matoy, Oklahoma; to parents Walter Allen and Lelia Mae Davis Scalf. She was a longtime resident of Irving and retired from Abbott Labs in Irving. She had been a Freestone County resident for 12 years having moved from Irving. She was a member of Fairfield Christian Center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Waldroup; a son, David Sims; a brother, Troy Scalf; three sisters, Lillian McCormick, Joyce Osburn and Lois Nordrum. Pallbearers were Jack Waldroup, Haven Proulx, Haden Proulx, Hagen Proulx, Michael Proulx and Miles Price. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Mary Beckham of Roswell, NM; James Runyan of Las Vegas, NV; Michael David Poe of Stockton, CA; son-in-law, Jack Waldroup of Wortham; one brother, Leonard Early of Marlow, OK; two sisters, Shirley Kimball of Frost, TX; Bobbie Simmons of Dresden, TX; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield, Texas conducted funeral arrangements.
