Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mr. John N. Powell April 14, 1933 - July 28, 2013 Mr. John N. Powell, age 80, of Latexo, left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the East Texas Medical Center-Tyler. Mr. Powell was born on April 14, 1933 in Kirvin, Texas to James L. and Ora Bell Powell. He attended school in Latexo before joining the Army. He served two years and returned to Houston to work for Central Freight Lines. It was during this time that he met and married Irene Powell. Together they raised a family of three children. After retiring from Central Freight Lines, in 1980, they returned to Latexo where he worked and retired, from the Houston County Water Control District. He enjoyed travelling throughout this great country but was always eager to return home to tend to his garden and cattle. He was a faithful member of Latexo United Methodist Church and had served on the board of Latexo Cemetery Association for many years. Survivors include wife, Irene Powell of Latexo; daughters, Cheryl Richter and husband, Donny of Baycliff, Kathy Curless and husband, Chuck of Latexo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Marek and husband, Ladis of Waco; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by son, Robby Powell; father, James L. Powell; mother, Ora Bell Neel Goldhagen; step-father, Joe Goldhagen; six brothers, J. L., Don, David, Joe, Lawrence Powell and Bobby Goldhagen. Funeral services for Mr. John N. Powell will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Gillet officiating. Interment will follow in the Latexo Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m. CALLAWAY-ALLEE FUNERAL HOME in charge of arrangements
