Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper January 15, 2009 Yancey (Smith) Price Graveside services will be held Thursday for Yancey Smith Price, 40, of Fairfield who died Wednesday, Jan. 7, after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Price was born in Pensacola, Florida on Sept. 23, 1968. In 1981, her family moved to Teague. She graduated from Teague high school in 1986 and from the University of North Texas in 1990. Mrs. Price worked as an elementary teacher in Arlington and Fort Worth. Following her cancer diagnosis, Mrs. Price penned a book titled "My Teacher Wears Many Hats." During her treatment, Mrs. Price's students brought hats for their teacher to wear as she lost her hair resulting from chemotherapy. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Fairfield Cemetery. Steve Cowart of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Mrs. Price is survived by husband, David Price; son, Brandon Price, both of Fairfield; father, John W. Smith and wife Mary Sue of Teague; brother, Lucas Smith and wife Beth of Fairfield; sister, Ashley Marshall and husband Jonathan of Brooklyn, New York; grandmother, Sara Smith of Fairfield; niece, Reagan Amick; nephews, Hunter Curry, Wyatt Curry, Dillon Smith and Connor Smith, all of Fairfield; and maternal aunt, Nora Sue Spencer of Brunswick, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her mother, Connie Ruth Smith. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
