Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - January 12, 1984 issue TRAGIC FIRE TUESDAY; FAIRFIELD MAN IS DEAD Frank Proctor, a wellknown respected member of the Black community in Fairfield, was found dead Tuesday morning in the kitchen of his home at 345 W. Highway 84, which was almost totally gutted by fire minutes earlier. He was a longtime employee of Plum Creek Ranch. According to Fire Marshall Larry Wilson of the City of Fairfield, the fire apparently started in the area of the space heater in the bedroom on the east side of the house adjacent to a carport. He also stated it was apparent that Mr. Proctor died from smoke inhalation, not from the fire directly, and that he was apparently attempting to leave the house.
