Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mr. Donald Lloyd Proffit Mr. Donald Lloyd Proffit, 85, of Teague, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his residence in Teague. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 1, in Greenwood Cemetery in Teague with Bro. Scott Matthews officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Don was born in Santa Anna, Texas, to the late John Henry and Anna Proffit. He grew up in the valley of South Texas and at age 17, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the service, he attended LeTourneau College in Longview and later moved to Teague in 1954 where he owned and operated Teague Welding Co. for almost 50 years. He loved to create and build things with his welding skills. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Jackson; and the mother of his children, Elsie Proffit. Survivors include daughters, Kathy Link and husband, Dean, of Troup, and Nancy Young, of Flint; grandchildren: William Young, Julie Jackson, George Watford, and Mylena Watford; great-grandchildren, Robert Applegate and Gaylon Applegate; and his dearest friend for many years, Ann Proffit, of Teague.
