Funeral arrangements are pending at Corley Funeral Home of Corsicana. Among survivors are his wife, Kay, and several children. ======================================================================== The Fairfield Recorder newspaper Thursday, September 7, 2006 Charlie Ray Funeral services were held Tuesday in Corsicana for Charles David “Charlie” Ray, 72, of Richland who died Saturday, September 2. Mr. Ray was born November 26, 1934 in Corsicana to Floyd and Hazel Ray, the eldest of three children. After graduating in 1953, he became a highway patrolman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. He married Kay Lansford of Richland on July 22, 1954. Mr. Ray served the Texas DPS for 20 years, first in Arlington and then in Fairfield, which he called home for the next 35 years. He was a member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he owned and operated “Charlie’s Truck Stop” in Dew, and later took a position with Rutherford Auto in Fairfield. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. at Corley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Nanette Wyatt officiating, assisted by Bishop Eddie Jones. Pallbearers were Maurice Burleson, Ralph Billings, Bill Turner, Luis Flores, Don Tubbleville and John Dearen. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Parrish, L.B. Gamble, Buster Hagen, David Pickens, Billy Jim Day, Bobby Rutherford, Bobby Boaz, Hubert Reynolds, and all of his poker buddies. Mr. Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kay Lansford Ray of Richland; his mother, Hazel Ray of Corsicana; his daughters, Terri Wiley and Jill Rash of Richland; grandchildren Nicole Hughes of Fairfield, Marlon Cockerell of Austin; Lauren Rash, Paige, Keaton and Zoey Ray, all of Richland; A sister, Barbara Adamson of Corsicana; a brother, Glen Ray of Grand Prairie; and three great- grandchildren, Olivia, Avi and Cameron (“Cash”). The eldest of three children, Charlie was born to Floyd and Hazel Ray on Nov. 26, 1934 in Corsicana. Graduating in 1953, he set his sights on becoming a Highway Patrolman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Kay Lansford of Richland would become his wife on July 22, 1954. Later on they welcomed their two daughters, Terri Lynn and Karen Jill into the world. Until his retirement, Charlie proudly served the Texas DPS for 20 years, first in Arlington and eventually relocating to Fairfield where he called home for the next 35 years. He was also member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge for over 30 years. Following his retirement he owned and operated “Charlie’s Truck Stop” and later took a position with Rutherford Auto in Fairfield. Charlie was a friend to all who crossed his path. Traveling with his wife of 52 years and spending time with his two daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, as well as his poker buddies filled his days. A Funeral Service will be held at Corley Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Corley Funeral Home.
