Freestone County, Texas Obituaries, Memorials, and Death Notices [It is not known where Ben Riley is buried. He is likely in an unmarked grave in Freestone County, Texas.] The Fairfield Recorder - Friday, September 11, 1896 Page: 4 Mr. Ben Riley a well known citizen of our county, who traveled about and sold patent medicines died last week at the residence of Mr. A. T. Prowell, in the Nip-and-Tuck neighborhood. He died very suddenly of hemorrhage of the lungs. He had been playing the fiddle for some time, and he stepped out of the house to go to his medicine wagon. While out there, it seems he made some exclamation of pain, which was heard in the house, but by the time some one could go to his relief he was dead. Justice Carley, of the Brewer precinct, held an inquest over the remains and it was decided that death resulted as above stated.
