Mr. Smith was born November 18, 1938 in Dew. Graveside services were held at Dew Cemetery where interment followed. Rev. Bryan Allen officiated. Mr. Smith was a backhoe operator for Palestine Contractors for approximately 20 years. He also lived in Palestine and Dew and served in the U. S. Army. Surviving Mr. Smith are his daughters Elizabeth Caldwell of Baytown and Carla Gallop of Athens; son Johnny Weaver; five grandchildren, Jennifer Leija, Travis Weaver, Katie Weaver, Kelly Weaver and Sarah Weaver; sisters Sue Jordan and Billie Williams of Dew and brother James O. Smith also of Dew. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Eva Mae Smith and wife Beverly Smith. Pallbearers were David Hogan, Warren Carter, Lyndall Carter, Greg Phillips, Charles Jordan and Michael Caldwell.
