Mexia Daily News - Dec. 16, 2003 edition Rev. Billy Don Roberts II TEAGUE - The Rev. Billy Don Roberts II, 53, of Teague, died Saturday in Fairfield. He was born July 18, 1950, in Houston, and was pastor of First Baptist Church of Tehuacana. Rev. Roberts, who had resided in Teague since 1990, was a Master Teacher, worked at Mexia State School, and also had been active in many areas of work in Teague and the area. Billy Don Roberts went to be with his Heavenly Father on Dec. 13, 2003. Those preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jake and Liddie Simons, and Malcolm and Lillian Roberts. Billy's heart-cry was for all to know his Savior, Jesus Christ, ands to know that he would meet them again in his eternal home in Heaven. He was a graduate of Howard Payne University and Southwestern Seminary. He was serving as full-time pastor of First Baptist Church of Tehuacana and was an employee of Mexia State School where he was a Master Teacher. He surrendered to preach on Mother's Day, 1965, when he was 15 years old. He has been pastor and music director at churches in Goldthwaite, Highlands, Groesbeck and Houston, and served in many other ministerial roles throughout the years. He grew up believing in Philippians 4:13, "For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," and chose his mother's philosophy, "We are only in this world a short time, but the good we do for others never goes away. The greatest joy in life is helping someone in need. The good we do lives on." Funeral services for Rev. Roberts were scheduled for this afternoon at 1 o'clock in All-Faiths Chapel at Mexia State School. Officiating will be the Rev. David Brown, assisted by Dave Bunce, and Dale McDaniel. Burial will be in Driver Cemetery, under direction of Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home of Teague. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Roberts of Teague; children - Traci Lynn Roberts of Denver, Colorado, Christi Michelle and husband Keith Hunter, Dianna Roberts and Sarah Roberts, all of Teague; a stepson, Dale Reece Dyches of Dallas; a grandson, Matthew Hunter of Teague; his mother, Gladys Conner, and step-father, Ben of Sugarland; his father, Billy Don Roberts and wife Annette, of Houston; a brother, Glynn Ray Roberts and wife Maria of Houston; a sister, Linda Roberts of Richmond State School in Richmond; two-step-brothers, Ben Conner, Jr., of Houston, and Dr. Michael Conner of Austin; two half-brothers, Darren Roberts and Don Roberts; a half-sister, Debra Higdon, all of Houston; a step-sister, Kathleen Pavey of Irving; a brother-in-law, Asa Atchley of Dawn; and beloved nieces, Heidi French, Kim Witt, Lynda Marie Comer and Lisa Roberts. Pallbearers are Melvin Brown, Claude Monk, Billy Duke, Larry Lynch, Preston Johnson and Charles Wyatt. Designated as honorary pallbearers are Walter Rogers, Josh Pearson and Edsel Henderson.
