Charles C. Roberts, Sr.  
(July 7, 1911 - November 27, 2007)  
  
Graveside services for Mr. Charles Callaway Roberts, Sr. were held on Saturday, 
December 1, 2007, at 10:30am at Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Powers officiated. Mr. 
Roberts was born July 7th , 1911 in Hugo, Oklahoma, Choctaw County. He passed away 
at 2:15 P.M on November 27th, 2007 in Schulenburg, Texas. He was raised in Donie 
Texas, Freestone County where he lived when he met his future wife. He was married 
over 50 years to his spouse Olen Marie Withrow Roberts, formally of Teague, who 
preceded her loving spouse in death in June, 1989. Charles C. Roberts, Sr. became a 
member of the Methodist Church at a young age in his teens. He and his new bride, 
Marie, moved from Teague to Houston in 1938 when he went to work for Dentler Made 
Products as a delivery driver. From there he went to work for Perfecto Cleaners and 
ultimately worked as a machinist for Cameron Iron Works where he retired after thirty-
five years of service in 1976. He continued to live in Houston until 2000 when he 
relocated to Schulenburg. He is survived by two sons, Charles Callaway Roberts Jr., of 
Houston, Texas and David Hampton Roberts & wife Mary Wannell Roberts of College 
Station; two grandsons James David Roberts and wife Tammy Roberts of Tannum Sands, 
Australia, and Matthew Hampton Roberts of Houston; two great grandchildren, Kaleb 
Hampton Roberts (age 15) and Jessie Jean-Marie Roberts (age 10) of Tannum Sands, 
Australia; one sister, Eunice Hull of Teague; and numerous nieces and nephews from the 
Roberts and Withrow families.
