Mexia Daily News - Jun. 4, 2005 edition Opal Jewel Sawyer Rogers Mrs. Opal Jewel Sawyer Rogers, 89, died Friday in Mexia. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Mexia State School. Mrs. Rogers, born March 10, 1916, to Carlie and Leila Bohanan Sawyer in McLennan County, was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Rogers, who died in 1975; and by three brothers and two sisters. The family will receive visitors today from 5 until 7 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Rogers will be Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Max Burkhead, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Johnny Layton of Lake Limestone Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Birdston Cemetery at Streetman. Surviving are daughters - Mable Lene Curry and husband James of Thornton, Jean Jackson of Mesquite, Peggy Lou Huckabee and husband Grady of Mesquite, and Vickie Lynn Beard and husband Gary of Tehuacana; a brother, Carlie Sawyer of Wortham; grandchildren - Ricky Young, Steve Young, David Jackson, Dan Jackson, Pam Shackelford, Kyle Huckabee, Lindsey Beard and Austin Beard; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Rick Young, Justin Young, Kyle Huckabee, Austin Beard, Dan Jackson and Clyde Ray Sawyer.
