Freestone County, Texas Obituaries John Bird Rutherford On Thursday evening, Feb. 16, 2012, the Lord called John Bird Rutherford home at the age of 75. He was born into this world on Jan. 9, 1937 to Thomas Brandon Rutherford and Effie Spurlock Rutherford. John spent four years in the Air Force which included a tour of duty in Italy. He worked for ADT and retired after 34 years of service with the company. John married Elizabeth Dimples Crane on March 21, 1981. He was an active member of Kerens Missionary Baptist Church and loved his Lord and Savior dearly. He spent many an hour in prayer for family and friends and others for whom he knew prayer was needed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Brandon Rutherford and Effie Spurlock Rutherford; siblings, T.B. Rutherford, Johnny Rutherford, William Penn Rutherford, Rose Lee Page, Carol Allen, Laura Pearl Marshall, Willie Lance, Joe Rutherford, Herschel Baker, Alice Faye Niedringhaus, Joyce Disotell, Juanita Glasgow, David Rutherford and a set of twins who died at birth. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Rutherford; children, Beth and Dan Nemeth, Johnny Rutherford, Robert Duane and Pam Carpenter, Joseph and Robin Rutherford, and Jay and Kelly Rutherford; grandchildren, Shea and Wyndell Gore, Brian Nemeth, Robert Carpenter Jr., Jennifer Rutherford, Justin Rutherford, and Ryan Rutherford; two very special great-grandchildren, Kaylee Simpson and Brandon Nemeth; brothers, Otto and Glenna Baker and James Rutherford; brother-in-law, Clifton Glasgow; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John Bird Rutherford loved life with his family and friends close by. He loved to tell a joke and get a smile from you when you were with him. He lived a full life though all of us left behind feel it was much too short. You are missed John, Dad, Papa John and will always be held in a special place in our hearts. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Leggett officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield.
