Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper David Salzar Funeral services were held this week for David Salzar, 78, of Teague who died Thursday, April 10, at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. Mr. Salzar graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor's degree in physics and was employed as a physicist with General Electric for 19 years. During his career, Mr. Salzar worked on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Space programs for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and prior to his employment with General Electric, Mr. Salzar worked for the United States Navy on the ballistic missile development program in Corona, California. He was also employed with RAMCO until his retirement in the late 90's. Mr. Salzar's career allowed him to travel around the world and before moving to Teague, he spent time tutoring children in the Cypress-Fairbanks school district. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Bowers Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Powers and Rev. Richard Gillet officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Salzar is survived by children Wayne Gillet and wife Netty of Dallas, Ronald Gillet and wife Suzy of Fredericksburg, Richard Gillet and wife Jean of Teague, Janice Mayfield and husband Craig of Conroe, and Patricia Henderson and husband Rick of Houston; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister Adrienne Lierman and husband Joe of San Diego, California; brother Richard Salzar and wife Barbara of San Diego, California; and sisters- in-law Pat Kouts of Galena Park, Babs Kouts of Belport, New York, Joyce Kouts of San Lorenzo, California, Shirley Smith and husband Art of Worchester, Massachusetts and Elaine Zirkle of Monroe, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by wife, Kathryn Salzar; father Adrian Salzar; and mother Dorothy Smith. Memorial may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children.
