Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 12, 2009 Marvin Richmond Scarborough, Jr. Graveside services were held last week for Marvin Richmond Scarborough, Jr., 89, of Sweeny who died Monday, March 2. Mr. Scarborough was born in Kirvin on Dec. 4, 1919. He married his childhood sweetheart, Wilma Maxine Adams, on March 10, 1940. Mr. Scarborough served overseas during World War II as a combat fighter from 1943-45. He moved to Sweeny in 1939 and was employed with J.S. Abercombie. In 1981, Mr. Scarborough retired from Amoco. He was a resident of Sweeny for over 70 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at Shanks Cemetery near Kirvin with Steve Cowart officiating. Mr. Scarborough is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilma Maxine Scarborough; daughter, Cheryl Melinda Hilburn and husband Beryl; son, John Marvin Scarborough and wife Cindy; five grandsons, Keith Rodgers and wife Joanne, Stephen Rodgers and wife Jodie, Paul Mapes and wife Heather, Casey Scarborough and wife KC, Cory Scarborough and wife Jaclyn; granddaughter, Katy Scarborough; brothers, Billy Jack Scarborough and wife Virginia and Bobby Scarborough and wife Jonon; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Richmond Scarborough Sr.; mother, Katie Irene Bell Scarborough; three sisters, Josephine Scarborough, Evelyn Draper and Dorothy Tomme; and brother, Joe James Scarborough. Memorials may be made to Methodist Men of First United Methodist Church in Sweeny. Funeral arrangements were provided by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
