Briar Shane Scruggs 
(September 19, 1993 - August 7, 2013) 

U.S. Veteran
Briar Shane Scruggs, 19 of Streetman, passed away August 7, 2013 in Jal, New 
Mexico. Funeral services will be Monday, August 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the 
First Baptist Church Wortham with Reverend Justin Colquette officiating. Burial 
will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin. Visitation with the family present 
will be Sunday evening 5-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church Wortham.

Briar was born September 19, 1993 in Corsicana, Texas. He graduated Wortham High 
School in 2012. He was Homecoming King, had a distinguished high school football 
career and was a mentor for kids without fathers program. He was a member of 
Christian FCA and a little league coach. Briar loved to play his harmonica, 
loved to hunt and was a true country boy thru and thru and was known as “Bubba” 
to many. His motto/favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 NKJV “I can do all things 
through Christ who strengthens me.”

Briar is survived by his fiancé, Cassidy Campbell of Streetman; daughter, Aubree 
Scruggs of Streetman; mother and step-father, Melisa Hogan Sikes & Josh of 
Streetman; father and step-mother, Shane Scruggs & Lisa of Richland; stepdad, 
Heath McDaniel; sisters, Josey Scruggs of Streetman, Haylee Sikes of Flinn; 
brothers, Lucas Gilbert of Richland, Wyatt Scruggs of Richland and Cason Sikes 
of Flinn; grandparents, Debbie Watson of Rural Shade, Ed Scruggs of Eureka, 
Juanita Hogan of Kirvin, Jerry Hogan of Kirvin and Paul & Mary Black of Soddy 
Daisy, Tennessee; Uncles & Aunts, James & Chris Haley of Wortham, Joshua & Lacie 
Black of Hixson, Tennessee, Adam & Kristen Barnes of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, 
Johnny & Cindy Goodnight of Corsicana, James & Tiffany Hogan, Jason & Tammy

will be Tyler Castlow, Ian Winsor, Larry Bennett, Cooper Warren, Drake Pendegrass, 
Joe McDaniel and Trey Hogan.
