Mary Frances (Steele) Sherrard

Services for Mary Frances Sherrard, 88, of Longview, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, 
January 21, 2009, at the chapel of Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road, with 
Bro. G.A. Stanfield officiating. The committal service will follow at 3:30 p.m. 
in Streetman, Texas, south of Corsicana. Interment will be in Birdston Cemetery. 
Mrs. Sherrard died Friday, January 16, 2009, with her daughters at her side.

Frances was born January 24, 1920, to Hugh and Gertrude White Steele in Streetman, 
Texas. During World War II, she followed her military husband, working in 
factories to build airplanes for the war, where her family affectionately called 
her, "Rosie the Riveter." A longtime resident of Longview, she loved country 
music, cooking and her Texas Rangers baseball. She was a seamstress and a member 
of Parkway Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Sherrard are her daughter, Charlotte Carter and Larry Doggett of 
San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Charlene Ouzts and husband, Ron, of Longview; 
grandchildren, Shana Littell and husband, Howard, Kevin Carter and wife, Tanya, 
Adam Hailey and wife, Jaime, and Evan Hailey and wife, Emilee; great-
grandchildren, Audrey Littell, Sarah Littell, Melanie Littell, Mattvey Carter, 
Addison Hailey, Makenna Hailey and Haiden Hailey; and sister, Mattie Hodge and 
husband, Charles. She also leaves behind several close and longtime friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas K. Sherrard.
