Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - July 5, 2006 edition Carolyn Sue (Hancock) Shields TEAGUE - Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Sue Shields, 65, were held this morning (Wednesday), July 5, 2006, at 11 o’clock in First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Shields passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006, at her residence in Teague, surrounded by family. The Rev. Jeff Powers officiated. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery-Teague, under direction of Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home. Carolyn was born January 17, 1941, in Borger to Hazel and Charles William (Bill) Hancock. She graduated from Teague High School in 1959 and married her high school sweetheart, Carl Shields, on August 17, 1960. She and Carl were married over 45 years and to this union were born four children. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and to her extended family. Carolyn had been a lifelong Methodist. Carolyn worked for the Teague Independent School District for 21 years. She loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Charles William (Bill) Hancock. She is survived by her husband, Carl Shields of Teague; her mother, Hazel Hancock of Teague; two brothers, John Hancock of Dallas and David Hancock of Teague; her son, Mark Shields and wife Donna, and granddaughter Ashlee of Waco; her daughter, Tracy Chatham and her husband Curtis and granddaughters Courtney and Caitlin of Teague; her daughter, Carla Dopslauf and her husband, DeWayne and granddaughters Danielle, Reagan and Carlee of Eagle Lake; her son, Monte Shields and his wife Kristie and grandchildren Rylee and Cayden of Brenham and Fallon of Teague; a nephew, Spencer Hancock of Teague; several other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Billy Paul Prestidge, Kenneth Fulton, Charles Robinson, Jimmy Walker, Toby Hullum, George Holmes and Horace Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers were Don Archer, Roy Marshall, Lloyd Wasserman, Clarance Whitesell and Gary Barker.
