Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper December 18, 2008 Carmen Angelina (Guerra) Silva Graveside services will be held next week for Carmen Angelina Silva, 92, of Fairfield who died Sunday, Dec. 14. Mrs. Silva was born in Clifton, Arizona, on March 28, 1916 to Manuel and Emilia Guerra. Her father was a concert violinist and later moved the family to San Diego, California where he toured with an orchestra from Baja to Mexico. She married George Silva on Sept. 24, 1938, in Phoenix, Arizona where the couple settled. Mrs. Silva was active in her children's activities including Arizona Horse Lovers Club. She served as president of the Alpha Delta Pi Mother's Club and began teaching piano after her oldest children left for college. Mrs. Silva was also active in the Arizona State Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Musicians and the Phoenix Piano Teachers Association. After her husband passed away in 1978, she moved to Rockwall and continued to teach piano along with her daughter Christy. She then moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1985 where she continued teaching for 11 years alongside her oldest daughter, Grace. Mrs. Silva once again returned to Rockwall and resumed teaching piano with her daughter Christy and served as an officer for the Rockwall Music Teachers Association for two years. After Christy and her family moved to Fairfield, Mrs. Silva retired from teaching and in 2001 she also moved to Fairfield. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Graveside services will follow at St. Francis Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 22, in Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Silva is survived by her daughter, Grace Hicks and husband Paul of Prescott, Arizona, Shirlee Ramage and husband Steve of Rockwall, and Christy Howerton and husband Rick of Fairfield; grandchildren, Mary Hicks, Eileen Lieby, Dr. Paul W. Hicks, Dr. Scott Hicks, James, Michael and Andrea Silva, Stephanie Howard and Angelina Howerton; and great-grandchildren, Braden, Drew, Charles, and Colin Hicks, and Gavin and Grayson Howard.
