Slaughter, of Yerby, died Saturday, August 12, 1899, and a host of friends with her husband and two little ones met at Lake's Chapel cemetery on the Sabbath to lay her remains away, Rev. D. T. McLeod officiating. Her little babe was laid there on the Sabbath previous. Mrs. Slaughter, nee Willie Powers, was born in Freestone county, June 8th, 1877. She was a member of Ward Prairie Baptist church in good standing. She was an affectionate wife, a kind mother and was loved by her associates. She walked in the straight way, and entered the narrow gate. Husband, follow her footprints, and lead your little boys that you may be an unbroken family in that home where no storm clouds rise nor death ever enters. There is a vacant chair in their home that can never be filled. Willie is lost to sight but to memory ever dear. It pleased God to take her. Loved ones, weep not for she is sweetly sleeping with her little babe in the arms of Jesus, and our loss is her eternal gain. We sorrow not as those who have no hope, for the gospel of peace lights the dark tomb and gives us a hope of reunion in Heaven. In love she lived, In peace she died, Her live was craved, But God denied." A Friend
