The car-pedestrian wreck occurred 8.6 miles south of town about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, and claimed the life of Kennyford W. Smith, 64. Driver of the car, a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, was Dominque Davis, 29, of Missouri City. Department of Public Safety Trooper Michael Adams reports that Smith was walking north on the outside shoulder of the northbound traffic lanes, and was in violation of a traffic law that states pedestrians along roadways must walk facing traffic. A Leon county DPS trooper, Wade Thomas, was stopping Davis to issue a traffic warning ticket and the Missouri City man steered his vehicle to the right shoulder of the interstate, Adams says. The car struck Smith, who was wearing dark colored clothing, when it pulled onto the road shoulder, Adams explains.
