Freestone County, Texas Obituaries SUSAN MELVINA SMITH Susan Melvina Smith, wife of Wm. Smith, senior elder in the Presbyterian church at Wortham, Texas, was born in Laurence county, Miss, July 12, 1846, and departed this life at her home in Wortham, Texas, July 31, 1918. She was married to Wm. Smith November 17, 1894. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, two daughters and three sons and their families. Mrs. Smith became a Christian in early life, joined the Presbyterian church, and by a daily walk and conversation adorned that profession constantly until the day of her death. She was fervent, frank, uncomprising, faithful and full of hope. Her religion was real, her grasp on the fundamentals of the Chrisitian faith was fixed and secure She believed in Him on whom she trusted and had no disposition to spend her time chasing the phantoms of pleasure which this world offers. In the work of the Master she found her chief joy, while her loyalty to her husband and children was an inspiration to all whom knew her. While she had proper concern for their temporal affairs, her greatest concern was for their spiritual good. In her last hours she spoke feelingly of their spiritual interests and yearned most of all to see them all safe in the fold of the church. As her pastor it was my happy privilege to be entertained in her home often, and her simple piety and Christian kindness was always an inspiration to me. In her suffering, the nature of whiich was such that her physicians gave no hope, she was patient, uncomplaining, and at times even cheerful. Approaching death had no terrors for her, but she seemed to look upon it as the Father's invitation to enter the Home which our Saviour has gone to prepare for them that love Him. G. T. Bourne
