Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Feb. 24, 2004 edition Margaret Smith BUFFALO - Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret LaVerne Smith, 69, of Buffalo, were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Anderson, pastor of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church of Buffalo, and Craig Graham, officiated. Burial was in Buffalo City Cemetery. Mrs. Smith, born March 26, 1934, in Venetia community (Leon County), to Shermen E. and Ona Winstead Streater, attended school in Marquez and was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Earl Smith of Buffalo, on April 8, 1950. Although she was a Homemaker for most of her life, she did work at several other places, including a garment factory in Mexia, a glove factory in Fairfield, and in the cafeteria for Buffalo ISD. LaVerne liked fishing, and she also collected hummingbird arts and crafts. She died Saturday in East Texas Medical Center at Fairfield. Surviving are her husband, Earl Smith of Buffalo; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Wayne Jackson of Mexia; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas Eugene and Cleo Streater of Marquez; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Odell and Joyce Smith of Wichita, Kansas; a granddaughter, Tasha Tacker and husband, Bud, of Wortham; a great-grandson, Jackson Tacker of Wortham; and several nieces and nephews.
