Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Groesbeck Journal newspaper February 19, 2009 edition Patsy "Jean" Smith Ms. Patsy "Jean" Smith, 66, of Mexia passed away February 12, 2009 in Mexia. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 15, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jimmy Guthrie officiated with interment to follow in Wilson Chapel Cemetery. Patsy Jean Smith was born December 31, 1942 in Freestone County. Although born in Freestone County, she lived her entire life in Mexia. Ms. Smith was a graduate of Mexia High School. She retired from the Mexia State School after 26 years of service. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her son, David Jarnigan and a brother, Glen Shields. She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Guthrie and wife, Cathy of Arlington and Michael Guthrie of Mexia; a daughter-inlaw, Michelle Zavala of Mexia; grandchildren, Justin Vickery and wife, Chaun of Corpus Christi, Mikey Guthrie of Corpus Christi, Amanda Hawkins and Michael Dannhaus of Hewitt, Keith Guthrie and wife, Amanda of Mexia, Meagan Guthrie of Arlington and Garrett Guthrie; great-grandchildren, J. T., Jarrett, Alli and Ashlynn Vickery of Corpus Christi and Kaitlin and Kole Hawkins of Hewitt; brothers, Carl (Bill) Shields of Teague, Doyle (Buddy) Shamblin of Grapeland, William (Bud) and wife, Marilyn of Mexia, Bobby Shamblin and wife, Barbara of Corsicana; sisters, Sue Van Zandt of Grandview and Linda Calhoon and husband, Ralph of Hewitt. Pallbearers were Clinton Hallmark, Eric Shamblin, Randy Van Zandt, Ricky Van Zandt, Kevin Calhoon and Brian Calhoon.
