Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Robert ‘Bob’ Smth, October 4, 1929 - April 29th, 2013 Robert ‘Bob’ C. Smith went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning. He had a glorious last few days in his home surrounded by his loving wife Ann, his family and many, many friends. Bob was born in Piave, Mississippi. At the age of 10 he began playing the mandolin and got involved n bluegrass style music. He and Ann were married in 1950, and the bluegrass music was major part of their lives. Bob also played the guitar and fiddle. His first public appearance was in 1944 at the Jones County Jamboree in Laurel, Mississippi. Bob was a fine husband, father and friend. He loved flying, fishing and playing music, but most of all, he loved his family and friends. He served in the United States Air Force for four years at which time he met his wife at a local social event. He worked in the printing business in the Houston area at United Printing Arts. Bob and Ann retired to Butler, Texas in 1996. He played at the peach festival in Fairfield many years ago. In recent years, he frequently played at the Fairfield Senior Center, joining in the Tuesday night music. They had a bluegrass pick’n at their farm every fall to celebrate Bob’s birthday. Friends and family come from miles away to join in the bluegrass fun. Bob Smith is survived by wife, Anna Smith, son Robert L. Smith and wife Esther, of Cartersvlle, Georgia, niece Deborah Lord of Orlando, Florida, grandson Rob Smith and wife Heather of Chandler, Texas and granddaughter Autumn and Chris Camilleri of Springfield, Georgia. Great-grand children, Cassie, Mae Lynn, Robby Smith, Shelby and Chloe Auman, and a host of nieces, nephews and other cherished family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert Charles and Wrennie Smith Walley, brother, Gary Max Smith, sisters Marie and Sandra. Also a precious granddaughter Joy Lynn Smith. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1 from 5 - 7 pm. Services will be Thursday, May 2 at 11:00 am at Capps Funeral Home at 113 East College st. in Fairfield. Internment will at Lake Chapel Cemetery following.
