LouAnn (Spoonts) Smith

LouAnn Smith, resident of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 
the age of 87. She was born July 28, 1926 in Moffat, TX to Marvin and Myrtle 
Spoonts.   

LouAnn married Chlois Gene Smith on July 22, 1944 in Bell County. She worked as 
a telephone operator, orthodontist’s assistant and was a manager at York’s 
furniture store in Fairfield. She was a member of First Baptist Church in 
Fairfield and was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW of Fairfield. She 
enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking for her family. She was a fanatic about 
keeping things clean.   

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Chlois 
Smith of Fairfield; three children, Melvin Gene “Muggs” Smith and wife Pam of 
Temple, Mark Wayne Smith and wife Nora of Fairfield and Cindy Newman and husband 
Zack of Fairfield; brother, Marvin Hunter Spoonts Jr. of Temple; seven 
grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  

Visitation was 5-7 pm Monday, February 3, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home 
in Fairfield. Funeral service were held 2 pm Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at First 
Baptist Church in Fairfield with Bro. Ken Pruitt officiating. Burial followed at 
Fairfield City Cemetery.
