Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Dec. 21, 2005 edition Earl Smith Funeral services for Earl Smith, age 76, of Buffalo were held 3 pm Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Buffalo Funeral Home. Rev. James Gooch officiated and interment was in the Buffalo City Cemetery. Earl Smith was born on April 26, 1929 in Buffalo, Texas to Arthur and Lillian (Elgin) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo, and was a member of the Stewart Memorial Methodist Church. He worked for 42 years for the Highway Department and retired in 1991 as a supervisor of the Maintenance Department in Buffalo. He loved his family; and he enjoyed ranching. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Laverne, February 21, 2004. Mr. Smith died on Tuesday, December 13, 2004 at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. Survivors include daughter, Margaret Ann Jackson and husband, Wayne of Mexia; Granddaughter, Tasha Tacker of Mexia; Great Grandson, Jason Tacker of Mexia; brother, Odell Smith, and wife, Joyce of Wichita, Kansas; nephew, Charles Smith and wife, Shirley of Valley Center, Kansas; niece, Joy Dell Smith of Wichita, Kansas. And a great niece and nephew. Pallbearers were Woodley A. Long, Thomas Davis, Charles Smith, Billy Borders, Dewayne Jones, and Stephen Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Long, Jackson Tacker, Harold Long and Buffalo Highway Maintenance Department Employees. Burial will be at Buffalo City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Mr. Smith died Tuesday in Fairfield. He worked and retired as a supervisor in highway maintenance in Buffalo. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Wayne Jackson of Mexia; a brother and sister-in-law, Odell and Joyce Smith of Wichita, Kan.; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a niece; and a nephew.
