Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle - November 6, 2014 issue LILLIAN LAMPKIN SMITH The Angelic Hosts came for Mrs. Lillian Lampkin Smith on October 26, 2014 at her Houston, Texas residence among loving family and devoted friends. Viewing was held Friday, October 31, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street, Teague, Texas and also from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 405 South Belknap, Mexia, Texas. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2014, North Crest Church of Christ, 918 North Highway 171, Mexia, Texas. Rev. Robert Campbell, Pastor of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Mexia officiated. Interment followed at Grove Island Cemetery in Teague, Texas. Lillian was the fifth child of Mitt and Lillie Kelley Lampkin, and was born in Streetman, Texas. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Morning, October 26, 2014, in Houston, Texas among loving family and devoted friends. She grew up in Streetman and attended the public schools there. Mrs. Smith was a United Methodist and became a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church when the church was known as Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in Mexia. At St. Luke, she was a member of the Senior Choir, The United Methodist Women and remained faithful to her church as long as her health permitted her. Mrs. Smith was a member of The Mexia Chapter of The Order Of The Eastern Star. Lillian and Rudolph Smith, Sr. were married in 1934 in a romantic setting on Mr. Smith’s dad’s front porch in Mexia. Seven children were born to this union: Rudolph, Jr., Millard, Nettie, Mattie, Kathleen, Bobbie and James. Lillian never worked outside of her home, but was able to focus on her family and spent quality time raising her own children as well as other children in the neighborhood Her skill in domino playing was exhibited quite often at the Mexia Senior Citizens Center and with family and friends. She was a #1 Fan of the Dallas Cowboys; however, her passion was being with her family. When a family member would leave her, she would say to them: “Later, Gator”, and give them ‘Double Thumbs Up’. Her keen love of flowers and cooking will never be forgotten. We will remember her most for her kindness, being the “Queen” of her family, and her willingness to give and help others. She loved to dress fashionably, and loved jewelry and hats. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Two brothers: M.T. and O. J. Lampkin and a grandchild: Rev. Randall Smith. Lillian Smith is survived by: Her sons: Rudolph Smith. Jr. of Mexia , TX whose wife, Deloris is deceased; Millard Smith of Manteca, California whose wife, Dorothy is deceased; and James Smith and wife, Larita of Mexia, TX; Her daughters: Nettie Cook of Houston whose husband, Henry is deceased; Mattie Ware of Houston, TX whose husband Owen is deceased; Kathleen Lyons and husband, Leroy of Houston, TX; and Bobbie Tankersley and husband David of Ft. Worth, TX; Her brother: Jim Jones and wife, Elenor of Albuquerque, New Mexico; ten grandsons, eleven granddaughters, twenty-six great-grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home will serve the family of Lillian Lampkin Smith.
