Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Wanda Beatrice Willard Smith April 13, 1923 - February 22, 2013 Dallas, Texas SMITH, WANDA BEATRICE WILLARD passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. She was born April 13, 1923, on her parents' farm in Navarro County, Texas, about four miles north of Wortham. She graduated from Wortham High School in 1940 and attended SMU. In 1963 she returned to SMU, Perkins School of Theology, as research assistant to Professor Albert C. Outler who was editing the Sermons of John Wesley, and later to Professor Richard P. Heitzenrater, editor of Wesley's Journals and Diaries. From 1994-2006 Wanda worked as Research Archivist at Bridwell Library, Perkins School of Theology, SMU, during which time she curated two exhibitions: Selina Hastings, the Countess of Huntingdon, in 1997; and A Methodist Minister in Paris; Letters of Andrew Longacre, 1860-1862, in 2002. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Landgrave Willard Smith; a sister, Joan Willard Little, of New York City; and a brother, Billy M. Willard of Amarillo, Texas. Survivors include two daughters: Marsha Reeder of Aurora, Colorado; Eileen Anthony of Buellton, California; a son, R. Russell Smith, IV, of Dallas; grandson, Travis Anthony of Lompoc, California; two granddaughters: Laura Anthony of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Emily Ann Smith of Dallas; a great-grandson, Robert Michael Anthony of Lompoc, California; and a sister, Connie Gorman of Waxahachie, Texas. Graveside service and burial will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Restland Memorial Park.
