Freestone County, Texas Obituaries C. S. Smith BRYAN - C.S. "Chile" Smith, 69, died Thursday, March 5, 1998. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Osborne and the Rev. Tim Skaggs officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. in Wortham Cemetery at Wortham. Mr. Smith was born in Lometa. He had lived in Bryan for the past 14 years. He received his bachelor's degree in agricultural education from Texas A&M University in 1953 and his master's degree in 1970. He joined the Navarro County Agricultural Extension Service in 1956. He later worked for Farm Land Industries for 10 years. He also served as a county agent in Childress, Swisher and Polk counties. Mr. Smith retired in 1985, but continued to be active in the 4-H Club. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Smith; a son, John Smith of College Station; a daughter, Carrolyn Bennett of Bryan; five grandchildren; his mother, Roena Smith of Goldwaithe; a brother, Johnny C. Smith of Burnet; and a sister, Billie Helen Jernigan of Goldwaithe. The family requests memorials be to the Brazos Valley 4-H scholarship fund or the Central Baptist Church building fund. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.
